M3U builder: turn a raw channel list into a playlist

A spreadsheet, a notepad file, a pasted list from a forum — none of it is a playlist until it has #EXTM3U and #EXTINF headers. This builder takes plain rows of name, URL and category, writes the structure for you and skips incomplete lines instead of producing a broken file.

From rows to a working playlist

  1. 1. Paste your rows

Four formats are accepted: name | url | category, name<TAB>url<TAB>category, name;url;category, and a bare stream URL per line. If you already have an M3U file, paste it as-is — the tool reads it and regenerates it by the same rules.

  2. 2. Let missing names be filled in

Leave a name empty and it is derived from the last URL segment (…/trt-1-hd.m3u8 becomes “trt 1 hd”). Rows without a usable URL are skipped and counted in the result card, so nothing disappears silently.

  3. 3. Remove duplicates

The same stream URL is kept once by default. Untick the option if you want every row preserved; the number of dropped entries is reported either way.

  4. 4. Download the file

The output is standard #EXTM3U / #EXTINF with the category written as group-title — the attribute players actually read. It loads in TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, GSE, Kodi PVR, VLC and most Smart TV apps.

Behaviour you can rely on

  • • Skipped rows — Lines without a usable URL are counted and shown, never written as empty entries.
  • • group-title — The category is written as group-title, which is what TiviMate, Smarters and Kodi group by.
  • • UTF-8 output — Turkish characters are written as UTF-8. If a legacy player shows boxes, force the encoding there.
  • • No upload — Generation happens in the tab: no address, channel name or credential is sent anywhere.

What the builder does not check

This is a formatter, not a validator. It checks structure — a URL is present, a name is derivable — but it never opens a stream, so a perfectly shaped playlist can still contain dead links. Run the result through the M3U checker before you hand it to anyone. Input is also treated as text: a malformed line that happens to contain a URL will be kept as a channel.

FAQ

Can I paste an existing M3U file?+

Yes. The builder reads #EXTM3U/#EXTINF blocks and regenerates them with the same rules, which is useful for normalising a file that came out of another tool.

What happens to lines without a URL?+

They are skipped and counted in the result summary. No empty channel entries are written, because those break most players on import.

Are categories required?+

No. Without a category the channel still gets an #EXTINF line; it simply appears in the player’s default or “uncategorised” group.

Does it work with a CSV export from Excel?+

Yes, as long as the columns are name, URL and category. Copy the range from Excel and paste it — the tab-separated format is detected automatically.
