Enigma2 bouquet: from M3U to the receiver’s channel list

Satellite boxes do not read M3U. They read userbouquet files in /etc/enigma2, where every channel is a service reference and every reference names a stream URL. This converter writes those files from your playlist — and reads them back — so a Dreambox, Vu+, Octagon, Zgemma or Gigablue can use the same list your phone uses.

Two directions

  1. 1. M3U → bouquet

Paste the playlist (or pick a file), give the bouquet a name and convert. You get a userbouquet file where each channel is two lines: a #SERVICE reference with the percent-encoded stream URL, and a #DESCRIPTION line with the channel name.

  2. 2. Install it two ways

Either copy the userbouquet file to /etc/enigma2 over FTP and reboot the box, or use the generated .sh script: it writes the file, adds it to bouquets.tv and reloads the list over telnet.

  3. 3. Pick the right service type

The first field of a service reference decides how the box opens the stream: 4097 is GStreamer/IP-TV and works on nearly every image; 5001 and 5002 target DreamOS (OE2.5) devices. If channels appear but nothing plays, regenerate with another type.

  4. 4. Bouquet → M3U

The other tab takes a userbouquet file back to M3U: percent-encoded URLs are decoded, #DESCRIPTION lines become channel names and everything lands in one playlist. Satellite service references and non-HTTP addresses are skipped, because they are not IP streams.

What the files contain

  • • #SERVICE 4097:0:1:… — The service reference. 4097 = GStreamer/IP-TV, the safest choice across images.
  • • #DESCRIPTION — The channel name as the box displays it — taken from the M3U entry.
  • • %3a — Colons inside the URL are percent-encoded, which is how Enigma2 stores addresses.
  • • bouquets.tv — The index file the script updates so the new bouquet shows up in the channel list.
  • • 5001 / 5002 — Alternative service types for DreamOS images; try them only when 4097 shows nothing.

Browser-only, and honest about what breaks

The conversion happens entirely in your tab: no request, no upload, no stored file — pasted content disappears when you close the page. What it cannot fix is a receiver that does not support IP-TV at all, and it skips satellite references on purpose: mixing a DVB-S channel into an M3U file produces an address no player can open. Always keep a backup of your existing bouquet before overwriting it.

FAQ

Where do bouquet files live on the receiver?+

In /etc/enigma2 as userbouquet.<name>.tv, listed in bouquets.tv. Copy the generated file there over FTP and reboot, or run the generated .sh script over telnet to do all three steps at once.

Why do channels appear but stay black?+

Wrong service type for your image. Regenerate with 4097 first; if that shows nothing, try 5001 or 5002 on DreamOS-based boxes.

Can I convert a bouquet back to M3U?+

Yes. Percent-encoded addresses are decoded and names come from the #DESCRIPTION lines. Satellite service references and non-HTTP URLs are skipped because they are not IP streams.

Is my playlist uploaded?+

No. Both directions are pure browser logic: no network request, no file upload, no storage.
